NPP female members advised to vie for high executive positions

Kodie (Ash), Jan. 20, GNA – Women members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have been advised to start vying for higher executive positions like National, Regional and Constituency chairmen. Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, NPP Constituency Chairman for Kwabre-West, who gave the advice, observed that women members of the party normally shy away from key executive positions, wrongly perceiving them as the sole preserve of men.

Odeneho Appiah was addressing the first general meeting of women’s organisers of the Kwabre-West Constituency of the NPP at Kodie on Friday.

The meeting was designed to bring the organisers together so as to evolve more workable strategies at winning more women to the party and preparing the grounds for the campaign for 2008 general elections. The Constituency Chairman was not happy that none of the 230 constituency chairmen of the NPP was a woman, describing it as a challenge to the “party women of today”. Madam Hanah Appiah, the Constituency Women’s Organiser, said the impact of women on the party could o nly be felt when they are able to convert more people to the party. She said therefore tasked all women organisers to give priority attention to converting not only women but also men to join the NPP to boost its chances of wining the 2008 general elections. 20 Jan. 06
