Ve-Golokwati (V/R), Oct. 20, GNA – Mr John-Peter Amewu, 35, an Accra-based Road and Building Consultant, was last Saturday elected the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Hohoe-North Constituency for the 2004 elections.
The elections was conducted by the Electoral Commission and supervised by Mr Lord Commey and Mr Ken-wuud Nuworsu, National Organiser and Volta Regional Chairman of the Party, respectively.
Mr Amewu polled 70 of the 103 votes cast to beat Mr Marlon Anipa, 45, based in the United Kingdom, who polled 30 votes with Mr Emmanuel Kumi, 60, retired civil servant polling three votes.
In his acceptance speech, Mr Amewu urged supporters to do away with divisive tendencies and rather unite for the betterment of the Party. He told the supporters to be conversant with the Government’s programmes and policies to enable them to educate the people about its achievements and plans.
“Intensify your membership drive, learn to tolerate the views of your opponents. This will enable you to win more votes in the constituency for the Party.”
Mr Delali Ndor, 48, a social worker and the sole candidate for the NPP Hohoe-South constituency was last Saturday introduced to the supporters of the Party at Gbi-Golokwati.
Mr James Dogbe, Hohoe District Chief Executive, introduced Mr Ndor to the electorate at a function when the planned constituency election that was to have confirmed him was suspended due to “an allegation, which has reached the Party’s headquarters”.
Mr Nuworsu said investigations were going on at the Headquarters about some lapses in the constituency elections. He, however, said Mr Ndor has been chosen as the sole parliamentary candidate for the 2004 elections.
