NPP doomed if it loses 2016 elections – Ephson

The main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) will be smithereens if it loses the 2016 elections, pollster Ben Ephson has predicted in an interview with XYZ News.

The Daily Dispatch managing Editor has christened the elections as an “all-die-be-die” affair for the party.

He said if the NPP doesn’t win, the party “is gone. The party will split”. In Ephson’s view, losing three consecutive elections would spark an implosion.

“I mean both NPP and NDC have got latent tensions. So it’s like a two cycle and [if] you lose third elections and you see that most of the things are self-inflicted, the party’s centre will not hold anymore. It’s going to break up,” he told Isaac Kaledzi on Strict Proof.

His prediction comes hours after a similar assertion by NPP founder-member Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobbey who told Asempa FM’s afternoon political programme Ekosii sen on Monday that the party “will collapse if it does not win the 2016 elections”.

In Dr. Wereko-Brobbey’s analysis, serious people wouldn’t want to be associated with a party that appears consigned to opposition.

After two successive wins in 2000 and 2004, the NPP lost twice to the NDC in 2008 and 2012.

Delegates of the party on Saturday voted out all the national executives and replaced them with a set of new members, except for the women’s organiser. They have tasked the new executives to win power for the party in 2016.

Both Ephson and Wereko-Brobbey believe a third consecutive loss will worsen the fortunes of the NPP.
