The Eastern Regional Executive Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has denied reports that Mrs. Mavis Kumi, the wife of the late Hon. Ernest Kumi, is planning to contest the Akwatia parliamentary seat.
In a statement signed by Eastern Regional Chairman Jeff Konadu Addo, the party described the reports as “false and misleading.”
According to the statement, Mrs. Kumi has communicated to the party that she has no interest in contesting the seat or participating in active politics at this time.
“Mrs. Mavis Kumi’s current focus is on mourning her husband with dignity and peace,” the statement read. The party urged all members, sympathizers, and the general public to disregard the reports, which it said did not reflect Mrs. Kumi’s wishes or intentions.
The statement also called on all to remain sensitive to the emotions and grief of the bereaved family, adding that the memory of Hon. Ernest Kumi, a committed patriot and loyal servant of the party and the people of Akwatia, deserves to be honored in truth and respect.
The party reiterated its commitment to upholding the values of unity, decorum, and integrity that it stands for and called on all to join in offering continued prayers and support for Mrs. Kumi and her family.
