NPP denies Akufo-Addo resignation rumors

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has described as “malicious” rumors making rounds on social media that the party’s flagbearer for the 2016 elections, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has resigned.

A statement purportedly signed by Nana Akufo-Addo and making rounds on Facebook copied to some media houses suggests that the former Foreign Affairs Minister had stepped down as the leader of the opposition NPP.

But, the deputy communications director of the NPP, Anthony Karbo has told Starrfmonline.com that Nana Addo has not resigned and is still the flagbearer of the party.

He added that the statement making rounds on facebook is untrue and must be disregarded by the media.

According to Karbo, Nana Akufo-Addo has confirmed to him that he is not the author of the statement adding that it is a deliberate attempt by their political opponents to divert attention from the lecture delivered by the Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on the state of Ghana’s economy.

The former National Youth Organiser of the NPP also clarified that the email used in sending the statement to the press – nppdcoms@gmail.com – was deliberately created to confuse the media. He added that the original email for the NPP is nppdcom@gmail.com.
