NPP committed to providing better health services to Ghanaians

Ankaful (C/R), June 29, GNA- Mr. Isaac Edumadze, Central Regional Minister on Tuesday said it is the responsibility of every government to give priority attention to issues of health delivery since health is paramount to the development of every nation.

He said the government would never shirk its responsibility in ensuring that Ghanaians enjoy a better health delivery system. Mr. Edumadze said this in a speech read for him at Ankaful near Cape Coast during the graduation ceremony of 72 health aides comprising 56 females and 16 males from 10 out of the 12 districts in the region. The aides were given six months training in anatomy, clinical and para-clinical disciplines and were bonded to serve in the districts, which sponsored them for five years.

Mr. Edumadze said the training of the aides, was necessitated by the exodus of health professionals from the country to seek greener pastures abroad.

The Regional Minister said the Regional Co-ordinating Council (RCC) was eager to reduce the burden of the limited health professionals at post and cooperate with the district assemblies to sponsor the trainees. Dr. Ken Sagoe, Director Human Resource Development Division of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) said the training programme was first organised in the Ashanti, Northern and Brong Ahafo Regions.

He commended the Central Region Health Administration for organising the programme and asked them to train another batch of 50 health aides. The Director urged the aides to be committed to their work, their patients and must show loyalty also to the district which nominated and sponsored them for the training.

Dr. Aaron Offei, Regional Director of Health Services cautioned them to discharge their duties within the code of ethics of the Ghana Health Service.

He also warned them to avoid the temptation of being drawn into doing what doctors and nurses are permitted to do.

Miss Precious Baffour was adjudged the overall best student and received a special award while Mr. Jerry Annan also received a special award for emerging as the best student among the males.
