NPP commends people of Atiwa for electing Amoako-Atta

Koforidua, Sep. 2, GNA – The Eastern Regional branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has commended the people of Atiwa for electing Mr Kwasi Amoako-Attah as Member of Parliament for the area.

Mr Amoako- Attah, a lawyer, obtained 20, 282 votes representing 75 percent of the total votes cast in the by-election on Tuesday.

His main challenger, Mr Emmanuel Attah-Twum, of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the current District Chief Executive for the Atiwa District Assembly, polled 6,190 votes representing 22.89.

George Padmore Apraku of the New Vision Party (NVP) and Abdul Kasum Karim of the People’s National Convention (PNC) also polled 477 and 940 votes representing 1.76 and 0.35 respectively.

The Atiwa by-election became necessary following the death of its MP, Mr Kwasi Annoh Ankamah, in July.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in separate telephone interviews in Koforidua on Wednesday, the first regional vice chairman and the regional secretary, Alhaji Omar Bodinga and Mr Prince Aboagye respectively said the victory had proved the superiority of the NPP over their main political opponent, the NDC, at Atiwa.

Alhaji Bodinga said the victory would serve as a moral booster for the teeming supporters of the party ahead of the 2012 general elections.

He said the regional secretariat was putting a lot of strategies in place to ensure that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo wins the presidency in 2012.

Mr Aboagye commended the electorate for proving to the whole world that the ruling NDC had no place at Atiwa.

He said the result would teach the NDC and the government a lesson that Ghanaians were not happy about their performance and would show them the exit in 2012
