NPP chairman charged for rioting; to be arraigned before court

The Police in the Northern Region have released the Karaga constituency chairman of the NPP, Tahiru Zakari, in Karaga for his role in chasing out the DCE for the area out of his office.

Tahiru Zakari, together with Baba Ali Osman, Mohammed Alhassan and Abdullai Ziblim, were arrested on Friday, 27 October and later granted police inquiry bail after being charged with rioting.

Irate youth of the ruling New Patriotic Party in Karaga in the Northern region went on rampage destroying and locking up offices of the District Assembly.

The youth have accused the District Chief Executive (DCE) Hon. Alhassan Yabdoo and the constituency organizer of monopolizing contracts in the district.

The youth have also accused the DCE of not giving due recognition to the constituency chairman because he did not support him [Alhassan Yabdoo] in his bid to become the District Chief Executive.

The police subsequently arrested the leaders including the NPP chairman as they failed to honour police invitation after Karaga District Chief Executive, Alhassan Yabdow, cited them as those fomenting trouble in the area.
