NPP alerts over Voter ID collection

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) says there are growing cases of unidentified persons collecting voters’ ID cards of eligible Ghanaians including nurses “for all kinds of promised services”.

“In many cases especially in Accra, reports indicate people are offered GHC50 in return for submitting their ID cards,” a statement issued by the party on Tuesday, August 11 said.

“In all these reported instances, information on the Voters’ I.D card is copied or the cards are not returned at all.”

According to the NPP, those collecting the cards set up make-shift offices under trees for their purpose.

The statement named unpaid nurses, farmers and market women as some of the victims.

“The NPP is at a loss as to why voters ID cards of innocent Ghanaians are demanded before a public service is rendered to them.”

The NPP, therefore, advises voters that they may be disenfranchised or lose the right to vote if they give out their ID cards.
