NPP advised to form courts to solve internal fracas

The New Patriotic Party – NPP has been advised to form internal party courts to handle misunderstanding and wrangling which have the potential of destroying the party.

The call comes on the back of recent happenings in the NPP which has led to the suspension of its National Chairman, Paul Afoko and a host of legal issues being heaped on the leadership of the party.

Whereas there is a court injunction barring any meeting by the National Executive Committee – NEC from meeting and an order barring Freddy Blay from carrying himself as the acting National Chairman of the party, a meeting has been held today at the party’s headquarters.

Some political watchers have described the meeting which was attended by the flagbearer of the party, Nana Akuffo Addo, his vice presidential candidate, Mahmudu Bawumia,Communications Director, Nana Akomea etc as ‘flouting the laws of the country.’

Speaking in an interview with TV3 News, Executive Director of the Ghana Institute of Governance and Security, David Agbee noted that “the party needs to take its own constitution and be able to follow internal ways of handling conflicts.

“Political parties in this country need to find a way of resolving conflicts by ensuring that they consider party courts. This would be able to help them resolve some of these issues and that is what some of us are recommending to the NPP.”

The main opposition New Patriotic Party has been in the media for what some have described as ‘wrong reasons which has deepened the cracks within the leadership of the party.

Suspended Paul Afoko however is still holding himself up as the Chairman of the party.
