NPP activists urged to welcome new members

Ho, Sept. 18, GNA – Mr Lord Commey, National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has advised party activists in the Volta Region to refrain from ‘hedging off’ new people from joining the ranks of the party.

He said the attitude of people who claimed to have toiled for the party and therefore, were not disposed to having new members to play active roles in the party was wrong.

Mr Commey was interacting with journalists on Wednesday in Ho as part of his working tour of the 19 constituencies in the region. He said the NPP, which was spanked in all elections since 1996 by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and currently has no Member of Parliament from the region had made gains in that part of the country. “I am overwhelmed by the gains made, the enthusiasm of the people, the number of defections and indeed some seats would fell to the NPP in next year’s elections”, Mr Comey stated.

He said the government’s open door policy and respect for the freedom of journalists were not because ”it wanted to go to bed with them.”

Mr Commey said the government has done well in its two-and-half years of administration and expressed regret at the stance of the NDC on the national health insurance scheme.

He said all political parties have the scheme in their manifesto, but were only peeved that by implementing it, the NPP was fulfilling an electoral promise.

Mr Mawutor Goh, Ho District Chief Executive (DCE), said Ghana was even late in implementing the scheme.

Mr Kenwood Nuworsu, Volta Regional NPP Chairman, alleged that news and comments in the Ghanaian languages that were aired on the local Volta star FM station were sometimes skewed in a manner that could cause disaffection to the government.
