NPP activists urged to give Kufuor free in appointments

Mankessim (C/R), Feb. 16, GNA – The Mankessim Ward Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Felix Antwi Nyarko, has appealed to members of the Party, especially regional and national executives, to give President J.A. Kufuor “a free hand” to appoint his functionaries. Mr Nyarko said though some leading members of the Party could be consulted on some of the nominations, they should not see it as a chance to dictate to the President.

Speaking to Ghana News Agency at Mankessim on Tuesday, Mr Nyarko said he was worried about certain developments in the Party, especially over the appointment of District Chief Executives.

He said the situation was creating divisions among constituency executives over who should be nominated for the DCE post. The NPP Ward Chairman said if the situation was not carefully handled, it could degenerate into a conflict, which could affect the Party’s fortunes in the future.

Mr Nyarko appealed to NPP members and supporters to call the Party’s MPs and other functionaries to order when necessary, adding that they should not wait till they were nominated for positions before they complain about their performance.

“That only goes to embarrass the President”, he added.
