NPP acquires bicycles for Constituencies in Eastern Region

Koforidua, May 01, GNA – The Eastern Regional Executive of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has presented 60 motorcycles and 300 bicycles worth 125,000 dollars to the 28 Constituencies in the region. Mr Yaw Gyekye Amoabeng, Eastern Regional Chairman of the party, making the presentation at Koforidua on Monday, the need to provide logistics became necessary after a recent tour of the constituencies by the Executive to assess the strengths and weakness of the party’s structures.

He said with the forthcoming exercise by the Electoral Commission (EC) to update the Voters Register, the Regional Executive felt it was necessary to equip the constituencies and polling station branches with the logistics to enable them educate the people adequately and monitor the exercise to ensure its success.

Mr Amoabeng asked leaderships at the constituency level and below to use the logistics with maximum care and maintenance and assured them that more resources would be provided to ensure the party obtained 90 per cent of the votes in the region during the 2008 elections. He announced that series of zonal training of trainers workshops on electoral laws for party structures would begin soon to ensure members of the party were conversant with them to check the incidence of rejected ballots by party supporters.

Mr Martin Ameyaw, Asuogyaman Constituency Chairman of NPP, who received the logistics on behalf of his colleagues, commended the Regional Executive for the gesture that he described as the first of its in the region.

He gave the assurance that they would be used to promote objectives of the party to win 90 per cent of the votes in 2008 and hoped more resources would be provided to motivate the party’s foot soldiers. 01 May 06
