Notorious robber gunned down

A Notorious armed robber who was said to have engaged the police in an exchange of gunfire, has been killed by the Kasoa District police in the Awutu-Senya District of the Central Region.

The suspect was allegedly gunned down at Liberia Camp, a suburb of Kasoa, in an attempt to get him arrested on Saturday.

The deceased, identified as Abass Salifu Sheriff, 23, alias Elephant, is said to have been on the wanted list of the police for his alleged involvement in a series of armed robbery attacks at Kasoa and its environs.

Corroborating the incident, Superintendent Samuel Tibil Punobyin, Kasoa District Police Commander, said at 12:00 pm on August 23, 2014, the police and the Charlie SWAT from Accra had information that the suspect, who had been involved in robbery with cutlass within CP and CRISPO City – all at Kasoa – was hiding in a room at Buduburam.

He stated that as a result, the police rushed to the place but Elephant, upon seeing them, fired a locally manufactured pistol in their direction.

According to the District Commander, the police fired back, killing the suspect.

Superintendent Tibil Punobyin indicated that the body of the deceased hag been conveyed to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for postmortem.

He further stated that some victims had identified Salifu Sheriff as their attacker.
