Notorious Aflao criminal appears in court

Ho, Aug. 11, GNA – Yawovi Akpaka, described as a notorious criminal credited with harassing traders in Aflao made his first appearance at a Ho High Court on Tuesday and was remanded until November one. Akpaka, said to have threatened the police openly on several occasions, was arrested on August five. He is yet to be charged.

Prosecuting, a Principal State Attorney, Miss Patience Klinogo told the court that Akpaka and his accomplices, now on the run, accosted 17 year-old Ishatu Oluwofe, a trader, who had arrived at Aflao from Lome. Akpaka and his accomplices dragged Oluwofe into a dark corner, manhandled her and threatened to kill her, if she does not surrender all the money on her.

Akpaka thrust his hand into the victim’s underpants and removed 400,000 CFA francs.

Miss Klinogo said Oluwofe reported the incident to her uncle who confronted Akpaka. He confessed his involvement and refunded 150,000 CFA that he said was his share of the booty. 11 Aug 04
