Northerners are united despite conflicts – Chief

The Spokesperson for Tamale Chiefs, Abass Salifu, has disclosed that despite the chieftaincy disputes that have characterised the people of the North, they are a united people.

Reacting to news of the resignation of deputy Agric Minister, William Quaitoo, over his outbursts against northerners, Salifu told Francis Abban on the Morning Starr that Northerners have moved beyond the era where they were taken for granted.

“We are very happy with the resignation of the Deputy Agric Minister and this should send a strong signal to everyone out there that the people of the North should not be taken for granted, gone were the days where people treated us anyhow because we lacked education but times have changed. We are no longer the people you can treat anyhow, people think because of the chieftaincy disputes between the Abudu and Andanis we can be treated anyhow; no, we are united despite our differences”.

Mr. Quaitoo in an interview with Starr News last week went berserk, describing farmers from the North, demanding compensation for their crops destroyed by the army worm epidemic as people who cannot be trusted. Despite rendering an unqualified apology after he was heavily trolled by residents of the Northern region, the Minority in Parliament led by their leader Haruna Iddrisu asked for his sacking.

President Akufo-Addo received the deputy minister’s resignation letter Tuesday night after a massive public backlash over some tribal comments he made in a radio interview.
