Northern Star School to introduce vocational skills

Northern Star School Complex, a leading basic school in Tamale, would introduce vocational education and life skills training to equip the youth with employable skills to earn a living.

Mrs Roseline Shiata Bawah, Proprietress of the school, who announced this at the School’s speech and prize giving day in Tamale, said the move is to complement government’s efforts at arresting unemployment in the country.

Deserving pupils, who distinguished themselves during the academic year including hard working teachers and non-teaching staff, were awarded various prizes.

Mrs Bawah said the School is already doing an aspect of cookery and hair dressing as part of the vocational education and life skills training.

She said the School recorded 100 per cent passes in the last four basic education certificate examinations.

She said the school, which currently employs 18 teachers and five non-teaching staff would continue to create an enabling environment to ensure quality education for children in the society.

Alhaji Limuna Mohammed-Muniru, Northern Regional Minister, said he is unhappy with the indiscipline and violent behaviour being exhibited by some youth in the Tamale Metropolis.

He said this has led to the destruction of public property including the recent attack and destruction of office equipment and property of the Northern Electricity Distribution Company in Tamale.

Alhaji Limuna called on parents to inculcate good morals in their children to enable them become responsible citizens.

He lauded the contribution of the private sector in education delivery in the country, adding that government is committed to improve the standard of education.
