Northern Region’s youth asked to avoid conflict

Youth from the Upper West, Northern and Upper East regions have been asked to avoid political, religious and ethnic conflicts that retards development.

Mr Daud James Abang-Gos, Upper East Regional Coordinator of the National Youth Authority, made the call when he briefed students drawn from second cycle institutions in the Upper East Region on the National Youth Policy.

The Northern Patriots in Research and Advocacy (NORPRA), a non-governmental organization, created the platform for dialogue.

Mr Abang-Gos expressed worry that selfish individuals and politicians use young people in conflicts.

He also advised students to refrain from negatives acts such as drug abuse, alcoholism, prostitution and pre-marital sex.

Mr Abang-Gos lamented that ‘’ some female students are not able to complete their education because of teenage pregnancies and advised girls to be serious with their studies”.

He said the policy would help inculcate in young people sense of patriotism, integrity, self-reliance and good leadership skills.

Mr Abang-Gos asked the youth to enroll in the Youth Leadership and Skills Training Institution, to acquire employable skills.
