Northern Regional Chairman of NDC buried

Tamale, Nov. 9, GNA – Alhaji Sumani Zakari, Northern Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), was buried in Tamale on Monday, after losing the battle for his life in Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra on Sunday evening.

A number of mourners including executives of the party, ministers, district chief executives and bigwigs of the NDC thronged the burial grounds to pay their last respect to him. Alhaji Ibrahim Yussif Andani, Tamale Central Constituency Chairman of the NDC told the Ghana News Agency in Tamale that Alhaji Zakari who died from diabetes, which afflicted him for 20 years, was flown to Tamale on Monday for burial in consonance with Islamic practice. He said the fallen Chairman was on admission for eight months. Alhaji Andani said the death of the Alhaji Zakari had left a big vacuum in the party, saying his fatherly and elderly advice as well as the leadership he offered would forever be in the minds of party members.

“He is the first chairman of the party in the region to be democratically elected,” he said. Alhaji Andani said the late chairman had been a strong support base for the NDC in the region. Alhaji Zakari, 73, left behind four wives and about 25 children.
