Northern Region marks Veterans Day

Tamale, Feb. 28, GNA – Veterans Day, a day set aside for the gallant soldiers who lost their lives at the Christianborg Crossroads near the Osu Castle in Accra on 28th February 1948, had been marked in Tamale by some students and ex-servicemen. Students of Tamale Senior High, Ghana Senior High, Islamic Senior High, Vittin Senior/Tech High and Dabokpaa Senior/Tech High, beautifully paraded and dramatized the incident that lead to the lost of lives of the three veteran soldiers sending tears rolling on some faces. Sergeant Adjetey, Corporal Attipoe and Private Odartey Lamptey were marching with their collogues to the Castle to present their petitions to the governor about their disaffections when they ordered to stop, and their refusal led to the shooting, which killed them.

The news about their death spread rapidly across the country leading to breakdown of law and order in Accra and other parts of the country, contributing to the agitations for independence. The Northern Regional Minister Mr. Moses Bukari Magbenba laid a rift for the people of Ghana while three others were also laid for the three gallant soldiers who lost their lives. 28 Feb. 10
