Wa, Nov. 28, GNA – Mr. Albert Atutiga, Northern Regional chairman of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) has advised members of the party to believe in unity and strength as the surest way of winning power. He has also appealed to all Nkrumaist parties involved in the unity talks to go beyond discussing the use of symbols and slogans and forge ahead in unity to ensure that the party won power in the 2008 polls to bring good governance to Ghanaians.
Mr. Atutiga was addressing constituent Executive Members of both the CPP and PNC at separate functions when he toured the West Gonja, Sawla-Tuna-Kalba and the Bole Districts of the Northern Region and some members at Wa in the Upper West Region at the weekend. The three-day tour was to organize people at the grassroots level to ensure that they were united to “fight strongly” for power in the 2008 polls for the party.
The tour was also to explain to the executives at the grassroots level the merger of CPP/PNC and how to win supporters for the combined force of the two parties, which would serve as a strong political party capable of wresting power from the NPP.
At Damongo, Mr. Atutiga asked all groups and individuals interested in building a winsome Nkrumaist party to marshal resources and strategies to form a formidable CPP to win power in 2008 to rescue the country’s economy from a total collapse.
He explained the PNC/CPP merger to the people and described it as a laudable idea and urged executives of the two parties to be wary of detractors who would be doing everything possible to ensure that the talks yielded no dividends.
He said the use of the PNC’s symbol of coconut tree and the motto: “Forward ever with honest service” had been agreed and approved at the just ended National Executives Committee (NEC) meeting in Accra and that, what mattered most was for all members to support the merger. He said, if there were others who were still not satisfied with the use of the PNC’s symbol of the coconut tree they could use both the coconut tree and cockerel of the CPP to satisfy both parties At Sawla and Bole the Regional Chairman told members not to panic about the choice of presidential slot, saying, “The issue of who becomes a Presidential candidate would be determined at a National Delegates’ Congress, which anyone from CPP or PNC would be allowed to contest for the positions”.
At Wa, in the Upper West Region, Mr. Atutiga said the way was clear for the Nkrumaist parties to win power “considering current political events in the country, ” claiming that the NDC and the NPP had failed and were loosing popularity in Ghana and that the way forward was for the CPP to unite to reclaim power.
Mr. Atutiga was commended by the Executive Members at Wa, who said for the past six years no chairman outside the region had visited them and urged him not to relent in his quest to help build the party. All the places he went, there was massive commitment and support for the CPP and all those who spoke expressed the hope that the CPP would win power if members stopped “the pull him down attitude” and worked in the interest of the party towards winning power.
Earlier, Mr. Atutiga inducted Alhaji Seidu Saaka, who had been acting for a long time as the substantive chairman of the party in Damongo, and advised members to give him the needed support to develop the party.
