Northern minister named in attack on members of NPP

The Northern Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sule Salifu has accused the Northern Regional Minister, Abdallah Abubakari of instigating the attack on members of opposition parties, who demonstrated peacefully against untold hardship in the country on Monday.

Mr Salifu made this disclosure during an interview in Tamale.

Hamza Lolly, a journalist in Tamale, had his camera smashed in the process.

According to the NPP Regional Secretary, it was an indictment on the Northern Regional Minister, who is also the chairman of the Regional Security Council, to have connived with the Police to deny the protestors protection.

Mr Salifu claimed that the Regional Minister also instigated his party supporters, led by the Northern Regional NDC Chairman, Sofo Azorka, to bump into the demonstrators with thugs to disrupt the protest.

The NPP official disclosed that the massive demonstration against the President in his own home region in the wake of efforts to thwart it at a time when the President was himself in the region demonstrated that he was out of touch with the people.

He added that people in the President’s own backyard were now wide awake to his empty rhetoric.

The demonstration, which was organised at the instance of the opposition parties in Tamale, was well patronised.
