Asante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito has admitted that North African clubs have an edge over Ghanaian sides in football development, but insists Ghana still produces superior natural talent.
Speaking ahead of Kotoko’s CAF Confederation Cup clash against Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca on Sunday, Zito acknowledged the structural and infrastructural advantage enjoyed by North African teams but remained confident in the individual quality of Ghanaian players.
“The North Africans are ahead of Ghana in football in general, but not in talent,” he said.
Zito, who is known for his strong belief in local player development, noted that while Ghana’s football systems need modernization, the nation continues to churn out gifted players capable of matching any side on the continent.
“Our players have raw ability, creativity, and passion, those things can’t be taught. What we need is proper investment and consistency to bridge the gap,” he added.
Sunday’s game will be a major test for Kotoko, who are seeking to make a strong impression in continental football.
For Zito, the fixture represents more than just a football match, it’s an opportunity to prove that Ghanaian talent can still compete with Africa’s best, even in the face of limited resources.
