Normal work at Effia-Nkwanta hospital Maternity ward resumes.

Sekondi, Nov. 14, GNA – Management of Effia-Nkwanta Hospital has resolved the problem that brought about the absence of doctors at the Maternity Ward which paralyzed operations at the ward for almost one week.

Junior doctors doing their housemanship at the ward completed their duty tour and withdrew from the ward but they were persuaded to stay on for two more weeks after a marathon meeting on Monday. A Nursing Officer at the ward who asked not to be identified told the GNA that the situation had returned to normalcy. Four junior doctors who were posted to the ward for six months as part of their training decided to leave when their assignment at the ward ended on November 08.

This brought operations at the ward to a halt and as a result patients were denied admission and those on admissions were referred to other health facilities.

It is expected that another batch of doctors would be posted to the ward to do their housemanship within the next two weeks. “Normal work resumed this morning and patients are now being admitted following the housemen’s decision to stay on for two weeks when another batch is expected to come and takeover from them”. She said a resident doctor who had been posted to the hospital had arrived and would resume work soon.
