Noisemaking ban in Ashanti forces NPP house-to-house campaign

The Ashanti Regional branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) says the ban on noisemaking in the Region due to the demise of the late Asantehemaa will worry the party’s campaign activities.

The NPP says despite the worry, it will work in the confines of the laws and directives by the Asanteman Council. It is therefore resorting to a house-to-house campaign instead of outdoor ones with a couple of weeks to go for the elections.

The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, put his campaign tour to the Ashanti Region on hold as a sign of respect to the late mother of the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The late Asantehemaa, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, died on Monday, November 14 at the age of 111.

Speaking at a press conference at Manhyia Palace Friday, the Otumfuo Akyeamehene, Nana Nsuase Poku Agyeman III, announced the ban on noisemaking in the Ashanti Kingdom, a situation which will worry political activities in the Region.

Reacting to the ban on Onua FM’s Ghana Dadwene, the NPP’s Regional Secretary, Sam Pyne, explained that “it will worry us a lot because noise is part of politics”.

Sam Pyne assured that “we will still work in the confines of the laws. We shall abide by the directives from Manhyia”. On the Chief of Staff’s tour to the Region, Sam Pyne alleged they are paying bribes and buying votes in the Region.

He alleged that “they are given the people GH¢50, 000” and not to campaign for any votes.
