No Winning Bonuses for Black Stars in Japan and South Korea Friendlies – GFA Confirms

Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director, Henry Asante Twum, has confirmed that Black Stars players will not receive winning bonuses for their upcoming friendly matches against Japan and South Korea.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Asante Twum clarified that the players will only be paid their standard per diems since the games are not competitive fixtures.

“There will be no winning bonuses for the Black Stars players for the Japan and South Korea friendly games, only per diems,” he explained.

He also revealed that the two host nations are fully funding the matches. “These games for the Black Stars are financed by Japan and South Korea,” he added.

The decision comes as the Black Stars embark on their Asia tour, which forms part of preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Ghana will face Japan on Friday, November 14, before playing South Korea four days later.

Head coach Otto Addo has named a 22-man squad for the tour, with 18 players already in camp in Nagoya. The remaining invitees are expected to join later today as the team begins training ahead of Friday’s Kirin Cup clash.

The friendlies will provide Otto Addo and his technical team with a crucial opportunity to assess players and build momentum ahead of next year’s World Cup campaign.
