No Trouble In NPP – Dan Botwe

Media reports of growing dissent amongst the rank and file of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) with regards to the imposition of Parliamentary Candidates in some constituencies by the party?s hierarchy, have been soundly quashed by the General Secretary of the NPP, Mr Dan Botwe.

Two Accra-based newspapers, ?The Heritage? and ?The Independent,? in their headlines today, June 7, sought to create the impression that there is looming danger brewing in the camp of the NPP concerning the party?s primaries.

Whilst the ?Heritage? talks of ?Trouble at the Yendi constituency?, the ?Independent has it that there is a ?row over the Weija NPP candidate?.

However, the General Secretary of the NPP has dismissed these news items as mere media speculation. Speaking in an interview on Peace FM?s ?Kokrokoo? Morning Show today, June 7, Dan Botwe explained that, where new constituencies have been created by the EC, the party will first organise constituency Executives Election, after which aspiring MP?s can file for nomination.

He disclosed that at the moment, the party has not gone for its primaries yet in the Weija constituency, thus making ?nonsense? of rumours of a row over a candidate in the constituency.

Touching on the alleged imposition of candidates in some constituencies, the NPP?s General Secretary stated that all primaries are held in a free and fair manner which is supervised by the officials of the EC.

Besides, he said, the party had already explained to the press that the run-up and aftermath of these primaries could produce such rumours. He was, however at pains as to why a section of the media have coined the expression imposition, despite all the media briefings.
