“No rigging, no second round”- Tackie Commey

Accra, July 30, GNA – Mr. Jonathan Nii Tackie Commey, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) aspiring candidate for the Odododiodio Constituency by-election on Saturday said the party had mapped out another “Asawase one-touch” strategy to win the August 30th parliamentary by-election. He said, “it is repeat Asawase, honour Mankattah, speak out with your vote, and just look up on the ballot paper and no where else,” He called on the supporters of the party to be wary of “tactical manoeuvres of the highest political order by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to exploit the death of a noble and cause confusion in the family.”

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview, Mr Tackie Commey, who described himself as “an indigenous Ga royal” called for sobriety, objectivity and commitment in the electioneering campaign as Gas are mourning “not only the death of the MP but our king.” “While multi-party politics necessarily involves sensitive conflicting views and opinions, it is important that politicians seeking to campaign in Odododiodio, focus on the fundamentals of the issues which affect the economic and social well-being of people; be dispassionate and objective and respect the traditions of the people.”

Mr. Tackie Commey, who is also an Assemblyman for Kinka Electoral Area urged the people to read in between the lines and consider the development projects that had sprung up within the past few weeks. “The interest of the people whose votes we seek and whose promises we must keep, are far more important than the narrow interests of any politician or group of politicians, and only objectivity in addressing issues can ensure this.”

The NDC aspiring MP expressed his personal condolences to the family of late MP and the constituents and assured them to continue the road map for the development of Odododiodio. He appealed to NDC supporters to stand firmly behind him for total victory, “we should not allowed our opponents to take what lawfully, traditionally and spiritually belongs to the party.” We must unite and expose the government’s failure, ineptitude in tackling the social economic problems of the people. He said his selection is a clear manifestation of the NDC’s aim of bringing together individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds and political philosophies to build a just and democratic society and retain the seat for the party. Six candidates are contesting the by-election scheduled for August 3.
