No reformation activity for inmates of Ho prisons in 2010

Ho, Jan. 8, GNA – Inmates of the central and female prisons in Ho did not go through any serious reformation activity in the year 2010. This is due to the lack of logistics and materials to support such exercises, Mrs Emma D. Sawyerr-Laryea, Volta Regional Commander of Prisons said at an end of year buffet dinner dance by the Service in Ho on Friday. She said though counsellors and some religious leaders visited the prisons to interact and preach to the inmates, 93no serious reformation programme took place.”

Mrs Sawyerr-Laryea described the situation as 93very worrying” and hoped the Service would take delivery of some logistics needed for such exercises in 2011 to make the year an active one in the prisons. She said the good news for the prisons, however, was that no prisoner died in prison in 2010.

“Though we lost four prison officers, no prisoner died with us in prisons.”

Mrs Sawyerr-Laryea said the central and female prisons also did not record any case of escape of a prisoner and attributed the feat to the dedication of personnel to work and their resolve to be professional in their duties.

She commended the personnel for their hard work and urged them to remain committed to the work. Mr Joseph Amenowode, Volta Regional Minister, said government was awar= e of the logistical challenges facing the Service and that plans were in plac= e to resource the Service. Individuals who distinguished themselves in the year were given prizes.
