No power for NDC congress – ECG

The Manager of the Electricity Company Ghana in the Ashanti region, Erasmus Kyere Baidoo, has confirmed that the ECG is unable to provide power for the smooth running of the NDC congress on Thursday.

NDC is expected to hold its congress at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in the Ashanti region to endorse President John Mahama as the leader and flagbearer of the party for the December elections.

But according to Mr. Kyere Baidoo, ECG has lost one of its transformers at station ‘A’ which has limited production of power in the region.

He added that GRIDCO is unable to help since one of its transformers has also broken down.

Mr. Kyere Baidoo stated that he is not sure when repair works will be completed for power to be restored to stadium area where the congress will be held.

He however added that contingency plans are being put in place to ensure that a generator is acquired to provide power for the congress.

According to Radio XYZ’s Ashanti regional correspondent, Isaac Bediako Justice, media houses who traveled far and near to the region to cover the congress are finding it difficult to get power to set up their equipment for a smooth broadcast.
