No one rigged Sunyani congress – Ade Coker tells Nana Konadu

The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress, (NDC) Ade Coker has dismissed allegations by the former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings that the Sunyani Presidential primary was rigged by President Mills.

Mrs. Rawlings on Saturday alleged that over a 1,000 non-delegates were allowed to vote during the Sunyani congress.

According to the former first lady, she decided not to drag the issue to court because she felt sorry for what was happening to her party.

However, speaking on the issue on Breakfast XYZ, on Monday, Mr. Ade Coker stated that everybody who voted during the Sunyani Congress was eligible and deserved the right to vote.

He stated that allegations made by Mrs. Konadu should be disregarded since according to him, the campaign team of the former first lady should have identified those non-delegates during the elections.

“All the delegates are officials of the party who were elected; these are delegates holding office for a certain period of time…they were not just plucked to go there, so all those who went there were official delegates” He said.

A deputy Minister of Finance, Fiifi Kwetey has also told Radio XYZ that the allegation by the former first lady is “inconsequential”.

Speaking to host of Breakfast XYZ, Emefa Apau, he said the masses of the party will ensure that President Mills is given a second term in the upcoming December polls adding that the allegation will not hurt the chances of the President.

He stated that the allegation by the first lady is her opinion on the election that took place in Sunyani last year and not a fact of what happened there.

He also added that, the decision by the Rawlingses not to appear at the Mantse Agboena rally did not have any negative impact since the rally was even bigger than the previous one held at the same grounds in 2008 which the Rawlingses attended.**
