No one can intimidate me – AMA boss

Mayor of Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Dr Alfred Oko Vanderpuije, has indicated in a strong language that the assembly would not tolerate any individual or group of persons who would attempt to obstruct the assembly from carrying out its mandate.

According to him, while executing the agenda of the Assembly as mandated by Law, any individual or group of individuals who would do anything to obstruct the performance of those statutory duties would be dealt with according to Law.

The warning was contained in a press release to set the records straight with respect to a media publication that suggests the assembly has violated the laws in a matter concerning the Akokofoto lands.

According to him, Mandamus is an order of a High Court that compels an individual or institution to perform a statutory duty as required of him and that failure to act in accordance with the order would constitute contempt of that Court.

This, he explained, is why the AMA is under obligation to enforce the said Court Order by inviting the police to provide security to the demolition team for the exercise, which is yet to be executed.

The AMA, he said, has a statutory obligation to maintain law and order around the city and would do so without fear or favour of any individual or organisation.
