No more blackboards in Aburi-Atwiasin – Chief

The Aburi-Atwiasin traditional Council has eliminated usage of blackboards from all Primary and Junior High Schools in his traditional area replacing them with whiteboards.

The move is to insulate Teachers and Pupils from hazards associated with the application of battery acid on blackboards in Schools.

Research suggests that, 85% of basic schools in Ghana use chalkboards of which it has been established that long contact with the chalk dust and chemicals in Zinc batteries used for maintenance is hazardous to the health of teachers and pupils.

Addressing a mini durbar as part of cultural activities to mark the Odwira festival by the Chiefs and People of Atwiasin ,Nana Opare Kwafo I, Kyidomhene of Atwiasin who doubles as the Mawerehene of Aburi said, the traditional council has resolved to support the Government’s Free Senior High School policy by providing the needed support to all schools in the area, hence the precursor investment of Ghc15,000 in eliminating the use of chalkboards which have negative health implications.

Some headteachers told Ultimate News, the elimination of the Blackboards is a sigh of relief due to observing cleanliness and hygienic teaching environment adding that ,the whiteboards will facilitate teaching and learning.
