No maternal mortality recorded in Effutu

The Effutu Municipality has not recorded any maternal mortality case for the past three years following prudent measures put in place by management of the health institutions in the area.

Mr Francis Ayekwei Tagoe, the Effutu Municipal Chief Executive, who made this known at the Effutu Municipal Assembly meeting in Winneba, commended the health authorities for the good work.

He said the Municipality did not also record any death from cholera and commended the Municipal Health Directorate and the Environmental Unit for the swift manner they confronted the situation to save lives.

Mr Tagoe urged the assembly members to educate their people to keep their surroundings clean and wash their hands regularly under running water to prevent the spread of communicable diseases and promote healthy living.

“Health issues should not solely be seen as a government issue but let us see it as an individual matter that can affect a whole community,” he said.

He said Ghanaians had a civic responsibility to keep the environment clean, especially disposing of waste properly.

Mr Tagoe appealed to the people to stop open defecation and poor disposal of waste adding; “it is only through this that cholera could be avoided in the municipality.”

He said the Assembly was putting in measures to ensure that environmental sanitation services were adequately delivered through public private partnership.
