No load shedding – ECG allays fears

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has allayed fears of its customers that the country is returning to the era of load shedding where consumers will have to live without electricity for several hours and in some cases many days.

Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the ECG William Boateng on Accra-based Adom Fm revealed that what transpired on Wednesday night was just a technical challenge following a sudden loss of feed from Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo).

“We lost the feed from GRIDCO around 9:51, but as I talk to you, we have started picking load and so some areas have power”

About 70 percent of the entire country was without electricity as at 9pm on Wednesday only to be restored on Thursday morning.

But the ECG explained that it is not an indication of a return of “Dumsor” as known in the local parlance.

Chief Executive Officer of GRIDCO, William Amuna blames the situation on power surge indicating that it begun at 9:40pm Wednesday night leading to the loss of many generators across the country

“It was around 9.40 pm and we started the restoration programme till about 1 am when we were above 1,000 megawatts and there was a swing in the power system again and we lost some generation again and currently we are in the process of restoring,” he added.
