No load shedding despite fire outbreak at Aboadze thermal station – VRA

Accra, July 19, GNA – The Volta River Authority (VRA), on Monday confirmed that fire gutted one of its 155 MVA transformers at the Takoradi Thermal Power Station, Aboadze, on Saturday, July 17.

A statement issued in Accra and signed by Mrs Gertrude Koomson, Head of Public Relations, VRA, copied to Ghana News Agency, said although the incident had resulted in the loss of 100MW power to the system, no load shedding was expected at the moment.

It assured the public that there was sufficient power reserve in the system to cater for the shortfall.

The statement said there was a spare transformer, which would be deployed at Aboadze to return the generating unit into service in the next few weeks.

It said that cause of the fire was not immediately known but investigations were already underway.
