No increase in school fees – Director

Accra, Oct 8, GNA – Ms Lydia Osei, Deputy Director General of Ghana Education Service, on Wednesday said there has not been any approval by the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ministry of Education (MOE) on increment of school fees in public schools.

Ms Osei, who was answering questions on increment of school fees at a press briefing in Accra said it was illegal for any school head to charge fees above the old fees and she asked parents to stand up boldly against such increases.

The conference was organised by the Teacher Education and Secondary Education Departments of the MOE and the GES in Accra on their activities and programmes undertaken over the years. She said the MOE, the GES and stakeholders were still holding discussions on fees that would be acceptable to all. She said schools were therefore, to continue to charge the old fees until a decision was taken.

She said some schools succeeded in charging higher fees because parents were ready to get their wards to gain admission.
