No Fear of Spread of CSM

Dr. Isaac Kofi Asare, Brong Ahafo Regional Director of Health Services has allayed fears that the outbreak of Cerebro Spinal Meningitis (CSM) in Goka in the Jaman District might spread to other parts of the region.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, he advised people not to panic “since the outbreak is under effective control by the medical team sent to the area”.

The Health Director explained that the disease could only spread to other areas if those already infected move to such places.

The outbreak of the disease could be attributed to the severe harmattan weather, he said, but added that it would cease as soon as the rains started.

Dr. Asare said the sudden occurrence of the disease in the region indicates that the desert “is gradually creeping down, which is not a good omen for the nation”.

He cautioned people against indiscriminate cutting of trees and setting of bush fires.
