For the lack of proper development of the Dormaa district, the constituents are threatening to boycott this year’s general elections if the government does not take steps to address this need.
Mr. Williams Yeboah, Secretary of the Dormaa Ahenkro Youth Association, observed that with the exception of a few development projects initiated by the Paramount chief, Osagyefo Oseadeayo Agyemang Badu II, Dormaa Ahenkro, the district capital, has not enjoyed any significant development by the government.
He, therefore, appealed to the Kufuor-led government to ensure that the people get their fair share of the national cake in terms of development to help open up the area.
The spokesman mentioned bad road network in the town abd described as the worst in the country and lack of basic infrastructure, like schools and electrification projects.
“Everything seems to be wrong with the town, hence the expectation that the government would take immediate steps to bail the people out of this predicament.”
Secretary Yeboah expressed his concern. Yeboah said the award of contracts to incompetent contractors and the negligence of the District Assembly to supervise work on these contracts resulting in shoddy work without a word of caution have worsened the situation.
According to Yeboah the District Assembly, which represents the government in the locality, has taken sides with the contractor and playing politics with the all important road project in the town.
The youth secretary also mentioned the Dormaa-Nkrankwanta road of which the District Chief Executive had, following a complaint, assured a replacement of the contractor and yet nothing had been done about this.
Yeboah said the people who are now fully awakened to their rights can differentiate between the truth and lies, as well as the realities on the ground, and would not allow any selfish politician to take them for a ride.
He said unless the District Assembly and, for that matter, the government acts fast to address this issue it could be disastrous for the government at the impending elections.
