No deaths recorded in Tema explosion – Fire Service

No lives were lost in the tanker yard explosion at Tema on Sunday, the Ghana National Fire Service has confirmed.

There were reports that eight people had died with several sustaining burns when 12 fuel tankers were burnt in the raging fire, which also swept through portions of Ashaiman Timber Market.

However, speaking to Class News, the Deputy Public Relations Officer of the GNFS, Billy Anaglate, confirmed that no deaths were recorded in the blaze.

According to him only a goat got burnt in the inferno which he said was caused by illegal human activity.

“We had 12 tankers out of which nine were totally burnt and three partially burnt. They had 25 tankers parked in this yard but 12 of them were those that got burnt… The place is a yard in which tankers normally park and this yard people were siphoning fuel and the siphoning is what caused the actual fire. There has never been any injury, there has never been any death. The only thing that got burnt was a goat,” he stated.
