No Cumulative Record, no admission, headteachers told

Begoro(E/R), Sept. 25, GNA – The Fanteakwa District Director of Education, Mr Stephen Peter-Andoh, has asked heads of basic schools not to admit pupils with no Cumulative Records in their schools. Addressing a meeting of Headteachers, Headmasters and Circuit Supervisors of Education at Begoro, on Wednesday, Mr Peter-Andoh reminded them that the Cumulative Records were vital documents to assess the performance of pupils as they climb the educational ladder. He said it would be a grave mistake to admit pupils with no cumulative record since their previous academic performances would be unknown.

Mr Peter-Ando deplored the low performance of graduands at this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results. He said his outfit was taking steps to weed out recalcitrant absentees, truants and drunkard teachers in the district. According to him, henceforth the omnibus promotion of primary six pupils to the Junior Secondary School(JSS) one had ceased, saying only Primary Six pupils who passed a performance monitoring test conducted in the district would be promoted to JSS One.

Mr Peter-Andoh said casual leave for teachers would now be scrutinized and ascertained on its degree and emergency before granted. The Deputy District Director of Education, Mr Mike Ansah Yeboah, asked Headteachers to stop assigning Kindergaten (KG) attendants to duties outside the classroom.

Mr Yeboah said KG attendants were not cooks, as people perceived, but serve as auxillary staff in the classrooms. He asked communities without KG to establish one since KGs were now absorbed in the basic educational system.

The Headteachers appealed to the GES to supply sufficient Cumulative Record cards and Continuous Assessment Registers to schools to facilitate their work.
