Chief Justice Georgina Theodora Wood has expressed concerns that five courts she initiated to specially deal with financial misappropriations especially those cited in the Auditor General’s Report seem to have been neglected.
She laments that since the courts opened for business on March 3, 2014, no case has yet been filed.
The Chief Justice made this known at the 7th Annual Chief Justice’s Forum in Accra on Friday, November 14.
The Forum was organised on the theme: “Integrity: The Key to Effective Justice Delivery”.
Chief Justice Wood revealed that the financial administration courts were established in pursuant to the Financial Administration Act of 2003, Act 654.
“The court’s jurisdiction as per Section 67 of the Act includes the following: to enforce the recommendations of the Public Accounts Committee on the Auditor General’s Reports.”
Two of those courts were established in Accra and one each in Kumasi, Sekondi and Tamale.
She admonished the Judicial Service to lead the way in cementing rule of law in the country.
National President of the Ghana Bar Association Nene Amegatcher stated that countries with high integrity and trust perform better economically and politically than those low on those indicators.
