No ban on Islam at SDA College – SDA Church

The Southern Ghana Conference of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church has denied media reports it has placed a temporal ban on Islamic Worship at its college of Education in Koforidua-Asokore in the Eastern region.

In a reaction to the story in a statement signed by one Solace Yawa Asafo (Mrs), it described the story as a fabrication by the reporter aimed at running the relationship of the college and the Muslim community.

“The Seventh-Day Adventist Church and its institutions are advocates of religious liberty and have had cordial relation with all religious bodies since its establishment in Ghana in 1888”, it stated.

According to her, a purported meeting with the Muslim leaders from the region and students was enough ground to suggest the reporter indeed concocted the story.

“A meeting with the Regional Chief Imam, Alhaji Yusif Sulleimana Andani, the leadership of the Muslim Students Association on campus and their Patron, Baba Awudu, the Deputy Finance Officer of the College also confirmed the journalist concocted the story”, she added.

Last week there was a report that management of the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) college of Education had temporary banned Islamic Worship on its Koforidua Campus while moves were underway to compel all students to strictly participate in SDA religious activities on campus.

This was said to have sparked disapproval by the Muslim students.
