No accident during Easter Festivities

Accra, April 01, GNA- The Nima Division of the Motor Traffic Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service on Monday said it recorded no accidents during the Easter festivities.

In an interview with the GNA, Superintendent of Police in-charge of the division, Mr. Gabriel Amankwa Dokyi said the success story was due to police presence and vigilance.

“The restoration of traffic lights and the presence of the community police in the area helped to reduce accidents that might have occurred during this year’s Easter.

He said traffic offences in the area had decreased due to punitive measures and huge fines the courts slapped on offenders, saying this had made most drivers either commercial or privately owned more careful on the roads.

Mr. Dokyi said as part of efforts at reducing these avoidable offences, the division also organized sensitization programmes for drivers on safe driving.

He cautioned road users to be careful, especially during the rainy season adding; “the rains are in and I will appeal to all drivers to be careful; on the road since most accidents recorded occur during this season.”
