NMC holds Night of Appreciation

The National Media Commission (NMC) has held an appreciation party for out-going board members of the various state media institutions.

The media institutions are Ghana News Agency, Graphic Communications Group Limited, Ghana Broadcasting Corporation and New Times Corporation.

Mr George Sarpong, Executive Secretary of the NMC, said the party was in recognition of the good work by the various board members after serving for two years.

He said despite the challenges facing the various state media, the board members were able to chalk significant growth and development for their respective institutions which was worth commending.

Mr Sarpong commended the framers of the 1992 Constitution for the provision of the Independent Media Commission, saying it has helped independent-minded people to contribute their quota to the development of the media industry.

Mr Kabral Blay Amihere, Chairman of the NMC, said the Commission was satisfied with the work of the various board members, as they put in place measures that could be built upon.

Mr Kwame Ansah, out-going Board Chairman of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, on behalf of other board members, commended the NMC for the opportunity to serve.

He, however, urged the NMC to re-consider the tenure of office of the various boards, saying the two years was short.

He gave the assurance that the out-going members were ready to provide support to the Commission whenever called upon to do so.
