Nkwanta voters queue up at 0400hours

Nkwanta, (V/R), Dec. 7, GNA – As early as 0400 hours on Sunday, anxious voters had formed long queues at four polling centre in Nkwanta in the Nkwanta-South Constituency of the Volta Region. The polling centre were: English Arabic; E.P. JSS; L.A. JSS ‘A’ and L.A. JSS ‘A’ Workshop.

Mr Mahmoud Ahmed, who was the first in the queue at the English Arabic polling centre, told the Ghana News Agency that he got there by 0300 hours on Sunday.

Those the GNA spoke to said they wanted to vote very early so as to have time for other things in the day. The Nkwanta-South constituency has 96 polling stations and 46,073 registered voters.

The constituency is being contested by Mr Gershon Gbediame incumbent NDC MP seeking a fourth term in parliament’ The other contestants are Mr Joseph Denteh, DCE for the NPP; Mr Oliver Ayivi, 40; Mr David Boama Asomani and Mr Joseph Okogye are contesting as independent candidates. Mr Gbediame and Mr Denteh contested the seat in the 2004 elections. Mr Gbediame won that election with 15,569 votes against Mr Denteh’s 8,805 votes. 07 Dec. 08.
