Government is to restore the original Flagstaff House, which housed Ghana’s first president, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, into accommodation for visiting heads of state.
President John Dramani Mahama says when work is complete, the historical edifice will also welcome tourists.
President Mahama made the observation on Friday when pupils of the Flagstaff House Basic School called at his office to formally welcome the presidency to the neighbourhood.
The selected pupils and staff of the school, before meeting the president, were conducted on a guided tour of the premises, which has since February, 2013, been the official seat of government.
The school is among facilities in the precincts of the presidency.
Headmistress of the School, Juliet Quashigah, explained that their visit is a traditional gesture to formally welcome the president and his staffers to the neighborhood.
President Mahama, in his remarks, traced the history of the Flagstaff House, explaining how significant the site is in the nation’s history.
He was full of joy for the friendly gesture, cementing the relationship by giving some souvenirs to the pupils.
