Nkoranza holds career conference for students

Nkoranza (B/A), Dec. 4, GNA – Parents have been urged to assist teachers to guide children in the selection of courses they would pursue in second cycle institutions.

Mr. Kwabena Agyemang-Badu, Nkoranza District Director of Education, who gave the advice, said this would enable the children to gain admission and pursue programmes of their choice without any hindrance. He was addressing more than 600 students of Junior High Schools, parents and teachers drawn from the district at Nkoranza at the launch of a 10-day career conference for Junior High School students and guidance and counselling coordinators. Mr. Agyemang-Badu expressed concern about the lack of parents’ interest in the courses and schools their children chose in their final year.

He urged headmasters to keep accurate records on students and to ensure that they made proper coding of the registration numbers of their chosen schools and programmes. He advised the students to concentrate on their books and eschew unhealthy practices that could ruin their future. Mr. John Kofi Amoah, District Examination Coordinator, described the computerised placement system introduced by the Ghana Education Service as a genuine exercise, saying it was devoid of favouritism. He said the system had assisted in eradicating the negative practices whereby protocol arrangements were made for some students.
