Nkoranza health directorate embarks on door-to-door anti AIDS campaign

Nkoranza (B/A), Dec. 4 (Credit Adu Simon), GNA – The Nkoranza district health directorate has selected some health workers to visit selected communities to sensitise the people on the HIV/AIDS pandemic as part of efforts at combating the disease in the district. Mr Richard Hinneh, District Director of Health Services (DDHS), told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview at Nkoranza that that the workers would continue with the education until they covered a very large area in the district.

Mr. Hinneh mentioned Bodom, Domeabra, Pinihe, Tankor, Nyinase, Jerusalem and Asuosu as selected communities where a durbar would be organised for the educational programme.

He said besides the community durbars, the health workers had been challenged to reach the people at their doorsteps and talk to people they meet in the homes and in the streets. Mr. Hinneh also said radio discussions on the pandemic were also being carried out on the local FM station at Nkoranza to enable the youth in the communities take pre-cautionary measures against contracting the disease.

Mr. Hayford Kyere, Nkoranza District HIV/AIDS Focal Person, said a special forum would be organised for people living with the AIDS to encourage them, as well as educate others not to stigmatise them as such negative practice would go against their human rights. He pleaded with spirited individuals, Churches, philanthropists and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to consider the plight of orphans and other vulnerable children whose parents have died of AIDS and offer them some support to enhance their growth. Mr. Kyere advised the youth to guard against sexual promiscuity or abstain from casual sexual practices.
