Nkoranza District to arrest bicycle riders at night without light

Akumsa-Domase (B/A), Aug 12, GNA – Mr Emmanuel Baffo, Assembly Member for Akumsa-Domase Electoral Area in Nkoranza South District, has warned the youth against riding bicycles without lights at night. “Recalcitrant riders will be arrested and handed over to the police for prosecution at the law courts”, he noted. Mr Baffo, who told the Ghana News Agency at Akumsa-Domase, said some of the youth in the district have become so notorious and indiscipline without regard to the elderly. “They ride bicycles without lights in the night and have been knocking down pedestrians and all efforts made to stop them have been unsuccessful, hence we have decided to set up a task force to arrest the situation”, he said.

Mr Baffo said the task force would also check activities of miscreants such as drug addicts in the area, who have turned classrooms into toilet facilities. He called on parents to advise such youth since anyone caught involved in the practice would be prosecuted. Mr Baffo expressed concern that in spite of the government efforts to make education accessible to all Ghanaian children, some of them still roamed the streets without attending school. “The unit committee will be empowered to arrest such children as well as parents who refuse to enrol their children in schools and they could be prosecuted”, he said.

Meanwhile, the traditional authorities at Akumsa-Domase have cautioned all school children against attending video shows, concerts and dance shows. They were also not to be seen at funeral grounds. 12 Aug. 08
